Keynote Speaker
Financial Education in the Age of FOMO
Carissa Uhlman, Vice President of Student Success at Inceptia
Keeping up with Joneses used to mean competing with your neighbors in regards to homes, cars, and vacations. Now, thanks to social media, it means keeping up with the Kardashians: Instagram worthy shots of lavish homes, designer bags, and champagne trips on a beer budget. As a result, a majority of Millennials report that social media wreaks havoc on their spending, and yet FOMO (fear of missing out) keeps leading them into debt. Add in the ease of accessing money electronically, and it’s a perfect recipe for financial disaster. How can we prepare students to say no in a world of nonstop peer pressure to spend, while technology makes it ever easier to do so? This session explores the effects of social media on spending and saving, the drawbacks of fintech, and how we can tailor financial education programs to inform and empower students to resist.

LAB Learning About Business
Marie Graf & Larry Lamphier, Program Chair
Learning About Business (LAB) presents a unique summer camp experience for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors called LAB Week. Held on the campus of Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio, the students have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on curriculum with presentations from business professionals. They also hone leadership and teamwork skills by working in teams to develop and run a drone manufacturing business in an online simulation environment. Students of LAB Week also earn three college credits for their participation in the program – the credit hours are awarded by Lake Erie College and are fully transferable.

How Students Can Seek Funding For Their Business Idea
Cory Dippold, OhioBusiness Week
Cory will be identifying funding sources for students’ entrepreneurial ventures and discussing opportunities for students to test out their skills and ideas through statewide partners.

Brian Duerring, Startup Success Manager for Cintrifuse
Cintrifuse is the business incubator in the Cincinnati region. Discussion will include how students are able to seek advice and possible funding for their business ideas.

Next Gen Personal Finance
Rob O’Donnell
Presenting NGPF – Personal Finance resources and training programs provided to teachers. We will review all of the resources available to teachers through Next Generation of Personal Finance. I have taken 40 hours of professional development the past two summers through personal finance.

Financial Planning 101 for Educators
Matt White, Primerica Advisors
Learn about important financial planning tips for educators, like personal life insurance, auto/home savings, legal planning and ID theft protection, and investing for your future beyond what is available to educators through STRS (and we all know we are going to need EVERY dollar in retirement)! Understand the rule of 72, the theory of decreasing responsibility, and much more, the building blocks for financial success that every educator today should know in order to be properly equipped. Learn from high school business educator and licensed agent and investment advisor, Matt White, about all of these important needs and have the peace of mind knowing you are ready financially for whatever life (and teaching) throws your way!
