2018 Session Descriptions

The Conference Committee is proud to offer the following sessions at this year’s conference.  Our expert speakers are excited to provide quality learning sessions.

Session 1

Digital Formative Assessment Tools
Stephanie Lyons, Plain Local Schools
Technology Integration Specialist

Digital Formative Assessment Tools allows teachers and students to see improvement in skill performance in real time.  These tools take grouping, regrouping and differentiating instruction from long tedious processes to quick in the moment transitions.  In this session, we will look at a number of Digital Formative Assessment Tools with time to explore and experiment.

Session 2

Google in the Classroom
James Patrizi,  Sheffield-Sheffield Lake Schools
Google Certified Instructor

Teachers can use Google in the classroom to create a more dynamic collaborative learning environment.  We will discuss how the use of Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Forms allow an educator to develop more collaborative assessments, as well as looking at Google Classroom.  In addition to using the Google Suite, educators can take advantage of the many apps and extensions that can strengthen the classroom experiences.

 Session 3

Personal Finance in Business Education
Matt White, Mt. Healthy Jr./Sr. High School

Learn about the most popular online personal finance curriculums and many other resources available. A discussion on why personal finance should be taught by the business department in a high school will be held.  There will also be an update on the House Bill 108 which would make personal finance a requirement for all Ohio high school students.

Session 4

Share Your Best Practices
Rob O’Donnell, Moderator

This should be one of the most resourceful sessions as business teachers from around the state present their best practices and websites for teaching various subject areas.  Please bring a favorite best practice or website to share with peers.  You can demonstrate or just talk about the website or best practices.  There are so many resources out there that it is impossible for all of us to be experts on all of them.

Session 5

Teaching Entrepreneurship
Amanda Defays, Glen Oak High School

Amanda will share her success teaching Entrepreneurship in partnership with Junior Achievement, United Way, and the Veale Foundation.  She will also talk about the Young Entrepreneur Institute–Teen Pitch Tank and the Think Big Challenge. Enspire, a terrific professional development conference, will also be discussed.  Amanda will show you her brand new lab and some of the businesses her students have operated.  You will not want to miss this session.
